I started getting this problem when the machine was less than a year old. I called our local serviceman and he said 'It's not the pump, it's the board, best to count your losses and buy something decent. I have cleaned the pump a hundred times since then and it still can't complete a cycle without stopping and the red light 'clean pump' coming on.

I now just empty the pump and set it to spin, if needed I rinse in the sink. The machine also started to rust before its first birthday. Not the brand it used to be. The Simpson dryer sitting next to it was purchased the same day and still looks new. I would absolutely love to hear the answers to your questions as well because I've been all over the Internet looking for answers to those very question. At the moment my machine is on a cold cycle and every so often it moves slightly but you certainly couldn't call it washing.
I am running out of hot water because of this stupid machine! I will never buy one again!

You buy a tap y splitter to make the cold tap have two fixtures and connect the hot and cold fitting to cold only. Means you can never wash in hot though!
